Yoga at The Ashram is your sanctuary from your busy life. We want you to get the most out of your experience. Here are a few things we all do to maintain a distraction-free enviroment where we are fully present with our practice.
The practice room is a sacred space for connecting with yourself and this requires silence before, during, and after class. Please respect other students and save any conversation for outside of the yoga rooms.
CELL PHONE FREE ZONE
From the time you walk into the studio, please put your phones away, ringer off. This includes the dressing rooms. Yoga is about being in the present moment fully and completely. This is a space to let go of all your distractions for an hour or two. Enjoy it!
KEEP IT SIMPLE – ONLY MAT, TOWEL & BOTTLE OF WATER IN A ROOM
Keep it simple. All you need is your yoga mat, your non-slip towel, and water bottle for your practice. Leave your bags, phones, watches, fitbits, applewatches, etc in the changing rooms. We ask you don’t bring hand towels or extra clothing into the studio either.
LINE UP YOUR MATS
It’s all about flow at The Ashram, and this includes how we place ourselves in the room. You are welcome to set up wherever you would like. Simply keep the mats organized neatly in 3 rows. And please be mindful not to setup directly in front, or behind, of another yoga mat. It’s impolite to walk on or move a mat that’s not yours.
ARRIVE ON TIME. STAY IN THE ROOM.
Classes start on time, so please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before class. Once your in the room, we ask you to commit to staying in the room, unless it is a true emergency. Listen to your body; if your having a hard class (we’re all been there!) rest and sit out for a posture or two.
It’s important you get hydrated “before” class, not during. For the Hot Power, and Bikram classes, we recommend “at a minimum” you should have 2 litres of water 2 hours before class starts. This is a general recommendation – your body may have unique needs. Once you start practicing, refrain from taking sips of water throughout class and wait for the designated water break. And hydrate after class.
CLEAN UP LAKES OF SWEAT
Hot Yoga is all about the good clean detoxifying sweat! And when you hydrate, you sweat a lot. It’s a good thing! But sometimes we can leave our own personal lake of sweat around our mat. So if that happens, just grab a towel outside the room and mop it up please so that the next class gets a fresh start.
