Monica started taking yoga classes in 2004 while working a high stress job in Corporate America. Her practice was not consistent until she found the Ashram Yoga Studio in the spring of 2013. From the very first class, the Ashram felt different from all the other studios she had tried and it became her new home. She immediately signed up for the Raja yoga class and began to understand true yoga as taught by Patanjali. Incorporating Raja Yoga, Transcendental Meditation, and a regular asana practice into her daily life has completely changed her life. She has found that a combination of the hot power, yin, and kriya yoga classes continues to transcend her to the next level of awareness in mind, body and spirit.
Monica trained under the guidance of Gary Olsen and completed the Ashram Teacher Training Program in January 2014. She has completed Raja Yoga, Advanced Raja Yoga, Ayurveda, and Anatomy courses taught at the Ashram Yoga Studio, as well as a 10-day silent meditation Vipassana retreat. As a teacher, she enjoys bringing a grounded and joyful energy to every class. Her intention is that each student leaves class with more awareness in the present moment, a calmer mind, an open heart, and a joyful spirit.
Monica holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. She has worked in corporate America since 1999 and is currently a Finance Manager at a Commercial Financing business. Outside of her day job and yoga practice, she owns a small business incorporating a Reiki practice and an art studio where she creates and sells paintings. She is a certified Usui Reiki Master who incorporates energy work into her daily life.
