Julie began practicing yoga in 2000. Bikram was her initial love, until she found herself in a power class and learned the combination of the two couldn’t be beat. When Gary Olson opened Ashram, Julie followed him to his studio as she loved his style of teaching and expertise.

In 2008 Julie moved back to Eastern Washington where she had grown up. The only studio in the area was a Bikram studio. She missed power, so would occasionally come over to Seattle to take classes. She also attended some weekend trainings; Baron Baptiste, Andre Lappa, Edward Clark’s Tripsicory and posture clinics from Gary at Ashram.

In 2011 Julie completed her 200 hour Hatha certification through Ali Valdez with Sattva. At Yoga Hot Spot in Yakima she taught a variety of classes (hot hatha, power, fusion, sculpt). Julie also brought her teaching of yoga into the elementary classroom. Outside of the classroom she taught yoga to kids with special needs at Children’s Village, and yoga to boot campers as the sun was coming up at the crack of dawn. Julie taught for a mobile fitness company, where she went to the office and led yoga sessions to employees at their place of work. Julie found that yoga, taking or teaching, brought out such a sense of calmness and peace. Julie has been involved in numerous outdoor charity yoga events. She feels it is always a great way to develop togetherness in a community.

When Julie moved back to Kirkland she began Gary’s Raja weekend course and Teacher Training. Both trainings have been amazing for her, and she has absorbed an abundance of knowledge.

Julie has her Master’s in Education and has been an elementary school teacher for the past 23 years. She currently teaches 3rd grade in the Lake Washington School District.
