Born and raised in the northwest, Jake grew up racing motocross and spending lots of time in the cascades snowboarding and hiking.
Jake was introduced to yoga in 2007 when he attended a power class at the Ashram. At the young age of 14, he did not take to it right away. But, he would come back every few months to practice with Gary. After numerous injuries and years of weight training, he realized that his body was starting to deteriorate and needed a healing practice. In 2014, he came back to The Ashram and started practicing regularly. He quickly experienced the healing his body needed, after being an athlete for many years. After consistent practice, Jake started to understand that the physical benefits he was receiving were really secondary to the benefits of a calm mind and a centered heart. The ease that is created through yoga practice started to translate into every area of Jake’s life.
After practicing consistently for some time, Jake became interested in the Raja Yoga course. After studying Raja Yoga and learning Transcendental Meditation, Gary invited Jake to attend teacher training. Shortly after, he began the 200-hour Teacher Training at The Ashram.
Today, Jake has over 400 hours of training with Gary Olson and is currently studying for a degree in exercise science. He has studied anatomy, Ayurveda, Sanskrit, and Raja Yoga. He has a passion for yoga and sees no other option than to share what he has learned with others. His mission is to lead others to healing spiritually, mentally, and physically. He believes yoga is the perfect way to do this.
Jake continues to deepen his practice through the guidance and support of the teachers and community at The Ashram. He feels truly blessed to be part of such a great thing.
